International touring Dance Artist & Ethnologist, Kimberly Miguel Mullen travels to the Pacific island of Guam in her first workshop series at Synergy Studios – Friday, May 8, Saturday, May 9, & Sunday, May 10, 2015. In observance of Mother’s Day, please join us for 3-Day Workshop series called, “KINGS & QUEENS” featuring sacred and popular dances from Cuba & Brazil. We will pay homage to the Universal Mother & Royal Kings of Yoruba cultural art forms, using polyrhythmic movement to build strength, alignment and full expression in the dance. Dance classes will focus on possibilities of movement of individual body parts and combining these articulations to dance from a powerful and creative place.
Kimberly is skillful at making these intellectual concepts accessible, relatable and beneficial to everybody by creating a context through which the execution of movement guides the exploration of the self and how we connect to others and the Universe at large. Participants will not only explore the unique relationship between the various dance steps and drum rhythms but will also learn the cultural, political, historical, and social content of the dances as well.
In the spirit of learning, all skill levels are welcome in this non-competitive dance classroom environment. No previous experience necessary.
[Upon returning home after a dance intensive with Kimberly]…”I felt as though I was dancing with a different body, one that had been remade into its true purpose, with technique supporting a greater philosophy of movement. I’ve been looking for this feeling when I dance for 15 years, so I can not overstate how important you have been in my life.”

(Past Dance Intensive Participant)
“Pure Joy. Mullen doesn’t stop smiling and encouraging the group with every step, making sure everyone is having a blast. We finished the class completely soaked but bursting with energy.” – Jaime Kiffel-Alcheh, Editor in Chief
Kimberly Miguel Mullen, an internationally recognized dancer and ethnologist has performed in the USA, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, Cuba and Hong Kong. As a solo artist, she was one of a chosen few to perform with the late legendary Cuban percussionist Francisco Aguabella.
