About the Show
Internationally recognized choreographer and dance ethnologist Kimberly Miguel Mullen collaborates with prolific singer/songwriter Mia Doi Todd and producer Alberto López for the world premiere of “Yemanja: Mother of the Deep.” This inspirational performance piece is a creative interplay of live music, song and dance that will engage and transport its audience on a journey evoking the transformative spirit of the sea. Dive into a world of myths and legends of Yemanja, the revered water goddess and universal mother figure, set to the eclectic soundtrack of driving polyrhythms, ethereal harmonies and Mullen’s solo performance.
Music composed by producer Alberto López (Belú Music) will accompany texts penned by songstress Mia Doi Todd, whose album “Cosmic Ocean Ship” was featured in the New York Times’ list of “Top 10 Albums 2011.” Also featured will be the musical talents of extraordinary Brazilian guitarist Fabiano do Nascimento, multi-instrumentalist Andres Renteria and percussionists Evan Greer and Kahlil Cummings, among others.
Please help us raise $5000 to pay for the production expenses for our show. We have raised $1210 towards our goal of $5000 with 18 days remaining!
l am also thrilled to announce the addition of two new Sponsors for our event – LA’s #1 Dance Fitness Studio Heartbeat House and Venice’s delicious Axe Restaurant will be donating food to our opening night reception on Friday, March 30. If you haven’t donated already, please know that your support will go towards our overall Vision for uplifting and educating lives about world art and cultures through live music and dance performance.
We are offering various levels of donations including: name mention sewn into the art installation for the Yemanja altar at the performance venue, autographed posters, private lessons, AfroCaribe dance class packages, dance dvd packages, private performance, etc. Any level of donation is greatly appreciated. Thank you dear dance community.
